Feline panleukopenia – update on prevention and treatment
نویسنده
چکیده
Introduction Feline panleukopenia is caused by feline parvovirus (FPV), which is a highly contagious virus affecting all members of Felidae. Severity of clinical signs depends on age, immune status, and concurrent infections. Clinical disease ranges from subclinical infection to a peracute syndrome with sudden death. Typical initial signs include fever, depression, and anorexia. Affected cats can initially present for vomiting and, with lower frequency, develop watery to hemorrhagic diarrhea. Atypical presentations are common, especially in adult cats. Infected cats die from complications associated with secondary bacterial infection, sepsis, dehydration, and disseminated intravasal coagulopathy (DIC). Mortality rates of 25%-90% in acute panleukopenia and up to 100% in peracute infections have been reported.

Antigenic detection of Feline Panleukopenia virus (FPV) in diarrhoeic companion cats in Ahvaz area
The present study was carried out for the antigen detection of Feline panleukopenia virus (FPV) in diarrhoeic cats referred to the Veterinary Clinic of the School of Ahvaz University, in southwest Iran. Faecal samples were collected from 67 diarrhoeic household cats during 2005 to 2007. According to the age and clinical signs, the cats were divided into two groups; 6 months, hemorrhagic and ...

Approximately 80% of the genome of feline panleukopenia virus was cloned into pBR322. This DNA included the transcription unit for the major viral mRNA species. The nucleotide sequence of the cloned portion of the genome was determined. Comparison of the feline panleukopenia virus sequence with the sequences of the parvoviruses minute virus of mice and H-1 revealed considerable homology between...
متن کاملDetection of feline panleukopenia virus using a commercial ELISA for canine parvovirus.
Feline panleukopenia virus (FPV) is a significant pathogen of cats. Rapid virus detection is critical for treatment and management, especially in populations in which spread may occur. This study investigated the ability of the SNAP Canine Parvovirus Antigen Test Kit (SNAP Parvo, IDEXX Laboratories) to detect FPV with confirmation of viral identity by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay and g...

Fecal samples were examined for viruses participated in gastrointestinal disorders of cats, especially focusing on feline coronavirus (FCoV) by a reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction assay. It was found that a primary viral pathogen was feline panleukopenia parvovirus (FPLV; 28.5% of the positive rate) and the secondary was FCoV (10.7%). Commonly reported clinical signs of cats of wh...
متن کاملANIMAL HEALTH Infectious Diseases Affecting Cats
The most important infectious diseases affecting cats are feline panleukopenia, feline viral respiratory diseases, feline infectious peritonitis, and the feline leukemia virus disease complex. Other infectious diseases affect cats, but do not occur as frequently. Feline Panleukopenia also is variously termed feline infectious enteritis, or cat distemper. It is caused by a parvovirus (DNA virus)...
